Bronx man charged with EMT's murder in FDNY ambulance carjack

A man has been charged with stealing an ambulance and killing an FDNY EMT by running her over Thursday night. Arroyo, who was driving the ambulance, stopped the vehicle near the intersection of White Plains Road and Watson Avenue in the Bronx at about 7 p.m., police said. "He reversed so hard and she was dragged", Nagi said.

"She wasn't just a mother to five, she was a mother to 100 plus people who worked here", said FDNY Lt. George Lampon, who broke into tears a moment later. The second EMT, seen in the bystander's video kneeling and sobbing over the body of her fallen partner, was treated at a Bronx hospital for minor injuries, police said.

City officials, including FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro, held back emotions at the hospital as they spoke to reporters about Arroyo, a mother of five and a 14-year FDNY veteran.

Nigro said the two EMTs had been on their way to a call when they were alerted to the bumper rider.

The station says he was identified as Juan Gonzalez, 25, of the Bronx, and charged with murder, grand larceny, and operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs. He has a history of violent and erratic behavior with police, they said.

"They should not ever have to be subjected to violence, and yet that danger always exists for them", he said.

Here's how much snow we're expected to get Monday
The " most likely" map has 4 inches across southwest CT and up to 7 inches in the "potential for this much" scenario. He said that because the snowfall on Saturday is not expected to be heavy, accumulation on roads will be minimal.

Gonzalez, who has a lengthy criminal record, was tacked by a passing MTA officer and a group of bystanders and taken into custody, the News said.

Police say a man then jumped into the vehicle and drove off.

"Knowing she was out there gave us the peace and understanding that the right thing was going to be done, every single time", he said. Tonight's tragedy in the Bronx is frightful.

The ambulance then crashed into several parked cars and got stuck on a snowbank. In the video posted to Twitter, she can be heard screaming in anguish as she stands over Arroyo, who is lying motionless in the street.

"A lot of heroism was on display today amidst the tragedy", de Blasio said. "This person has no business being in this ambulance". As colleagues mourned Fire Department Emergency Medical Services technician Yadira Arroyo at a stationhouse draped in black and purple bunting, Jose Gonzalez was arraigned on murder and other charges in her gruesome death. He told NBC 4 NY he lived with his mother and his uncle in Arroyo's apartment on Creston Avenue; Montes said his siblings range in age from 7 to 23.
