Raiders upgrade at tight end with Jared Cook

With Cook on the books and Walford still under his rookie contract, it affords Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie the freedom to pick up a tight end late in the draft if he chooses, to sign an undrafted tight end, or to simply stand pat.

Cook's addition comes on the heels of the Raiders losing leading rusher Latavius Murray to the Minnesota Vikings.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is going to have a new target for his passes when he gets back on the field this year.

Ian Rapoport‏ of NFL Network tweeted it out.

Packers GM Ted Thompson then turned around and signed not one, but two tight ends for the team in 2017 - Martellus Bennett and Lance Kendricks.

That said, he did catch 30 passes in 10 regular season games last year and was a big-time playmaker for Aaron Rodgers last year in the playoffs, hauling in 18 receptions for 229 yards and two touchdowns in three games.

Walford's development has been slowed by offseason injuries during his two years in the National Football League and he has 61 catches for 688 yards and six TDs in his career.

Green Bay Packers Defensive Deep Dive: Nick Perry
Given Perry has never played a full 16-game schedule, it's fair to wonder if his 2016 was a one-year blip on the radar. Second-year pro Kyler Fackrell would have been next on the depth chart with Datone Jones and Julius Peppers unsigned.

Cook had a down year for most of last season, including missing six games due to injury.

The Seattle Seahawks have been busy hosting former Green Bay Packers free agents for visits.

For his career, Cook has 303 receptions for 3,880 yards and 17 touchdowns.

The Raiders have been looking for a second receiving target at the tight end position to go along with Walford.

Despite not having prolific numbers last season, Cook was a major catalyst for Green Bay's offense.

Has Jared Cook enjoyed some fine moments?
