3 dead in Mississippi train, charter bus collision

A charter bus and train collided in Biloxi, Mississippi, on Tuesday in a dramatic and deadly crash.

He said a nearby hospital is setting up a triage unit at the site to treat the injured.

About 50 passengers were riding the bus, and a witness told WLOX they were mostly senior citizens. Every passenger on the bus was injured in some way, said Biloxi Police Chief John Miller.

The bus was pushed 200 feet down the track after the eastbound train crashed into it, Miller said. Due to ongoing construction projects involving railroads in the area, there have been multiple incidents of stalling on tracks in Biloxi, local media outlets reported.

Workers however told the media that they were not surprised by the incident because the roof had been leaking. It was formerly known as the Johannesburg General Hospital, nicknamed Joburg Gen.

The tour bus had been travelling from Austin in Texas when it crashed shortly after 2pm (8pm United Kingdom time), and it is thought those on board may have been heading to one of Biloxi's eight casinos. Crews were seen removing people through the emergency windows.

CSX, the company which was operating the freight train, is yet to publicly comment on the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board was notified about the crash.
