Women Of NASA To Be Immortalized - In Lego Form

The women featured in the set include Katherine Johnson, a mathematician and scientist whose story is told in the Oscar-nominated film Hidden Figures; Sally Ride, the first American woman in space; and Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman in space.

"We are really excited to be able to introduce Maia's Women of NASA set for its fun and educational value as well as its build and play experience", said Lego Marketing Manager Lise Dydensborg in a video announcing the victor.

Maia Weinstock, deputy editor of MIT News at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, submitted the proposal 7 months ago as part of Lego's Ideas contest. "It's also another step in the right direction in terms of providing more female minifigures to the company's offerings, which is extremely important".

It is set to be released late this year or early in 2018.

"Women have played critical roles throughout the history of the US space program", Weinstock wrote in her project proposal.

Lego Ideas spokeswoman Lise Dydensborg announced the result in a video message, accompanied by a drum roll.

Five women scientists will be immortalized as the newest Lego figures.

Mexican congressman climbs border fence to prove a point
Echoing Mexico's leading politicians, Guerra wrote on Twitter that "human rights, principles and dignity are non-negotiable". The Border Patrol and the State Department had no comment regarding Guerra straddling the border wall.

"Maia Weinstock's Women of NASA project was a way for her to celebrate accomplished women in the STEM professions". After a proposal gets 10,000 fan votes, a review committee decides which those ideas become official sets.

Her design trumped several other prospective new designs, including plans for a Large Hadron Collider made out of Lego.

Weinstock said she hopes it sets a new example for girls and boys. The iconic toy company announced yesterday that the concept was the victor of its LEGO Ideas competiton and will honor female astronauts, mathematicians and other pioneers of the space program. Other projects that were vying for Lego production included depictions of the Addams Family Mansion and the Large Hadron Collider.

The female employees at NASA are "Hidden Figures" no more.

The stars of Hidden Figures brought NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson on stage with them, where she was greeted with a standing ovation.

Including Margaret Hamilton, a computer scientist and the person responsible for developing on-board flight software for the Apollo missions to the moon.
