Trump Regales Conservative Crowd with Tales of Past Victory

Several members of President Donald Trump's cabinet and inner circle spoke to hundreds of conservatives at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland this week and they all had generally the same message: The big, bad media lies and the press is mean to us.

No doubt with that in mind, Fox Nation, a community website run by Fox News, asked readers: "How would you rate President Trump's first month in office?" Fake. You have to leave that word. "People considered that controversial, but you didn't". You tell us what you think.

When Trump first addressed the group in 2011, flirting with a 2012 presidential bid, he sounded numerous same populist tones that would propel him to the Oval Office, as NPR's Don Gonyea has noted. "We believe in peace through strength and that's what we will have".

Trump opened his 50-minute speech by slamming the "dishonest media", accusing outlets of fabricating sources.

The cries came after Trump briefly mentioned Democratic presidential candidate Hillary ClintonHillary Rodham ClintonTrump hears "lock her up" chants at CPAC CPAC attendees seen waving Russian flags Michael Moore touts Ellison for DNC chair: "We need fresh blood" MORE's comments describing his supporters as a "basket of deplorables". "It's fake, phony, fake", Trump said.

Trump said he is not "against the media", and "there are some great reporters around", but there are also "terrible, dishonest people" in the business.

"They make up sources".

"It does not represent the people, and we're going to do something about it, because we have to go out and we have to speak our minds and we have to be honest".

CEO Carlos Ghosn Stepping Down; Hiroto Saikawa Succeeding
Carlos Ghosn, perhaps the most powerful man in the global auto industry, is stepping down from his role as CEO of Nissan Motor Co. But he became a famously globetrotting CEO by also taking on responsibilities for running France's Renault.

He specifically railed against reporters' use of anonymous sources and demanded that people who leak information to the press instead criticize him to his "face". Let their name be put out there.

In another effort to stomp out negative attention surrounding news stories about the Trump allies being in contact with Russian intelligence, the Associated Press reported that Trump's chief of staff Reince Priebus asked a top Federal Bureau of Investigation official to refute the news reports about the alleged communication between both sides.

President Donald Trump acknowledges the crowd at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday. "I won't say it's because of me, but it was".

"It's time for all Americans to get off of welfare and get back to work", he said. "You're going to love it".

He also said his administration is preparing a massive military budget request.

"We're going to build a wall, don't worry about it", the president said.

Trump did not miss the opportunity to self-aggrandize, boasting to the crowd that Steve Forbes had called him "one of the greatest entrepreneurs in the history of free trade".
