Kim Jong-un's half-brother 'assassinated with poisoned needles at airport'

Kim Jong-un's half-brother 'assassinated with poisoned needles at airport'

Kim Jong Nam believed his youngest brother, Kim Jong Un would fail as North Korea's leader, according to Gomi - though the two brothers never met because of the ancient practice of raising potential successors separately. What is likely to take much longer to determine is whether the plot was orchestrated directly by Kim Jong Un, who recently celebrated five years at the helm of North Korea and is now locked in a showdown with the worldwide community over his nuclear ambitions.

The BBC reports that Jong-chol's whereabouts have not yet been established, so perhaps we should keep a close eye for a positive identification.

The half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reportedly been assassinated in Malaysia, South Korean media and Malaysian police say. The Yonhap News Agency of South Korea also reported the assassination without any detail.

It was, it was later claimed, because he wanted to visit Disneyland.

Kim Jong Il died in December 2011, when Kim Jong Un took power.

Jong-nam, who studied in Russian Federation and Switzerland, was a computer enthusiast and fluent Japanese speaker.

Malaysia has diplomatic relations with North Korea, and Malaysians can travel to the isolated country visa-free. But in a New Year's speech, Kim Jong Un said he had "spent the past year feeling anxious and remorseful for the lack of my ability", painting himself as tough on enemies but humble before the people. "He thinks [Kim Jong Un] has a lack of experience".

But Mr. Kim also once predicted doom for his half brother's rule while talking to reporters from Japan, North Korea's sworn enemy.

As a result, Kim Jong Nam was raised mostly overseas, and Kim Jong Il reportedly believed he had become too westernized.

Kim Jong Nam was not necessarily a proponent of North Korea's dynastic succession.

Kim Jong-nam who was older than Kim Jong-un was based mostly outside of his country.

The OA renewed for Season 2; makers release teaser of season 2
During a press event held in New York, Batmanglij revealed he and Marling have yet to begin working on the next season. The OA centers on young Missouri woman Prairie Johnson (Marling) who - missing since age 7 - mysteriously resurfaces.

Mohmad Salleh, the Malaysian Criminal Investigation Department director, was quoted by the Los Angeles Times as saying that the police will "classify this case as a sudden death".

"A woman came from behind and covered his face with a cloth laced with a liquid", police chief Fadzil Ahmat told Bernama, the Malaysian state news agency.

"However, we will perform the post-mortem first before releasing the body", he said.

"(The) deceased sought treatment at a KLIA clinic but was later referred to the hospital", she said.

Officially, Beijing has voiced support for the North Korean succession.

In October 2012 South Korean prosecutors said a North Korean detained as a spy had admitted involvement in a plot to stage a hit-and-run auto accident in China in 2010 targeting him. There are unsubstantiated reports circulating that Kim Jong Nam may have been attacked. "He was originally going to succeed Kim Jong Il".

Jong-Nam and his family afterwards lived in virtual exile in Macau, Singapore and China.

"The assassination is a clear reminder that Kim Jong-un's family members are not an exception to his a reign of terror", said Kim Yong-hyun, a professor of North Korean studies at Dongguk University.

But their relationship likely took a turn for the much worse two years later, when the young North Korean leader had their uncle, Jang Song Thaek, executed.

"It seems probable that the motivation for the murder was a continuing sense of paranoia on the part of Kim Jong Un, which may be a well-placed paranoia", Tokola wrote in a commentary Tuesday.
