Arizona Mother's Arrest May Signal Start of Trump's Deportation Machine

The former president had prioritized the deportation of people who were convicted of crimes such as aggravated felonies, terrorism or activity in a criminal street gang. In 2008, she was arrested for impersonation, following a raid by Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and was subsequently charged with a felony.

Santos writes that Garcia de Rayos was "afraid to go to her appointment on Wednesday".

"I was very scared when I went to ICE, but I was not going to hide; I did not want that", she told EFE. Her husband, Aaron Reyes, is also undocumented.

That changed when she appeared for a check-in on Wednesday, as activists and supporters rallied outside the ICE office.

In the meantime, at the Nogales crossing between the two countries, a young mother was among the first to be deported under new measures.

The ministry also noted that the Mexican government, its embassy in the US and the consular network there would "continue to provide assistance and protection to all Mexicans who require it regardless of their immigration status".

Garcia de Rayos' teenage children spoke at an emotional news conference Thursday in Phoenix, the Arizona Republic reported. President Donald Trump, during his election campaign, promised to deport all undocumented immigrants, then softened his rhetoric, saying he first intends to focus on criminals.

It remains unclear when Garcia de Rayos will be deported. Police in riot gear showed up around 10 p.m. local time (midnight ET) and said seven of the protesters were arrested "without force".

During a press event held in New York, Batmanglij revealed he and Marling have yet to begin working on the next season. The OA centers on young Missouri woman Prairie Johnson (Marling) who - missing since age 7 - mysteriously resurfaces.

That offense moves Rayos up in the queue for deportation according to President Trump's January 25 executive order, which prioritizes the deportation of any undocumented immigrant convicted, charged, or liable to be charged for any criminal offense or guilty of misrepresentation to government officials.

An immigrant mother in Phoenix granted leniency during the Obama administration was deported to Mexico Thursday in what activists said was an early example of how President Donald Trump plans to carry through on his vow to crack down on illegal immigration.

Several people were arrested during protests in Arizona on Wednesday night over a woman facing deportation. Ms. Rayos did not fit any of these criteria, which is why she was allowed to stay in the United States even after a judge issued a deportation order against her in 2013. "No one should have the pain of having their mother taken away", said her daughter Jacqueline Rayos Garcia, 14, a student at Red Mountain High School in Mesa.

Andre Segura, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union Immigrants' Rights Project says instances like the one in Phoenix had been their concern since the orders were released.

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, a Democrat, said the events of Garcia de Rayos's detention and deportation are a travesty.

A protester locks himself to the van carrying Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos outside the Ice facility in Phoenix.

Trump's order goes far beyond that, using a sweeping definition of "criminal" and giving a single immigration officer the ability to make judgments on threats to public safety.

Trump's executive order last month expanded border securities to include undocumented immigrants who committed any criminal offense.
