Bucks lose Parker to season ending knee injury

After injuring himself during Wednesday evening's matchup against the Miami Heat, Parker indeed suffered a torn left ACL and will now be forced to encounter a 12-month rehabilitation process after surgery.

The injury occurred during Wednesday's loss to the Miami Heat.

Parker was driving to the basket when his left knee seemed to buckle, sending him to the ground.

After Parker tore the ACL in his left knee as a rookie, during a game against the Suns on December 15 of 2014, he underwent surgery a month later. He played in 76 games last season and averaged 14.1 points and 5.2 rebounds. But now, this will be his second ACL injury and surgery on the same knee.

Parker, the No. 2 pick in the 2014 draft, was really starting to blossom into the player we all hoped he would be this season.

Civilian deaths rise in Afghanistan
The conflict in Afghanistan has killed 24,841 civilians and injured 45,347 since 2009, according to the United Nations report . UNAMA's report Monday charted a 10-fold increase in civilian casualties blamed on Islamic State - 899, including 209 deaths.

Head coach Jason Kidd confirmed the news and Parker is set to undergo surgery to fix the injury.

Thoughts and best wishes from a number of National Basketball Association players were offered on social media, including one from Dwyane Wade, who knows all about dealing with injuries.

Goran Dragic hit four of five shots in just five minutes of work as the Heat went ahead by as many as 11 and led by 13 after one quarter.

Milwaukee, despite their current record of 22-29, was/is still in the mix of the Eastern Conference Playoffs. A team that was poised to build its young, potentially championship-contending core around Antetokounmpo, Parker and Middleton now must consider the long-term viability of such a commitment.

There's a case to be made that at full strength Middleton will help the Bucks more this season than Parker did because of his superior defense and outside shooting. Merely playing as well as before won't likely be enough; FiveThirtyEight's CARM-Elo projections show Milwaukee making the postseason in just 18 percent of simulations.
