This monster tornado just rolled through New Orleans - major damage reported

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said in a statement despite the 31 injured people, there were no tornado-related fatalities in the New Orleans area.

Snother touched down near the town of Donaldsonville and another in the town of Killian, the National Weather Service said.

However, New Orleans East suffered the worst of destructions as the tornado frayed from the base leaving the power lines were strewn dangerously on roads.

The National Weather System has issued a tornado watch for portions of southern Louisiana, southern MS and other parts of the region's coast until 2 p.m. local time.

Residents of New Orleans East are picking up debris on February 8, a day after an EF2 tornado swept through the neighborhood damaging as many as 250 homes.

"As helicopters hovered overhead and emergency response vehicles streamed into neighborhoods, it reminded them of [Hurricane] Katrina", reported Tegan Wendland of member station WWNO in New Orleans.
