Apple hires Timothy D

Apple has hired Timothy D. Twerdahl, the general manager and director of Amazon's Fire TV business, to be the vice president in charge of Apple TV product marketing, reportsBloomberg.

The hire shows that Apple is looking to move ahead in an area where it has lagged behind. According to his LinkeIn profile, Twerdahl joined Apple this month.

The head of Amazon's Fire TV unit is leaving for Apple and will lead their Apple TV efforts going forward. The streaming service needs to find direction and objective, and hopefully this hire is a sign that Apple understands that now, he added. It is worth mentioning that Twerdahl was previously working with Netflix and also worked as a product vice president at WIMM Labs, which is a smart watch startup that was acquired by Google in 2013. The report indicated that the segment deliver a little over five percent of sales revenue in fiscal 2016. Apple TV has been hampered by its relatively high price and lack of support for Amazon Video and Spotify, the researcher said.

Twerdahl has been in charge of Fire TV since 2013, overseeing two generations of the product and its rise as one of the more popular internet-connected set-top boxes.

Tennis player Genie Bouchard learned her lesson after betting against Tom Brady
New England wound up pulling off the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history, stunning Atlanta with a 34-28 victory in overtime. With the Falcons comfortably ahead, Bouchard - like the rest of us - thought the game was in hand.

Interestingly, the news indicates that Apple is focusing more toward Apple TV and on offering more quality content for the device. In fact, Apple CFO Luca Maestri blamed Apple TV for the "other" category's decline in sales.

The current, almost year and a half old, Apple TV carries a huge price premium. Amazon also pulled all Apple TV hardware off of its website, not allowing customers to purchase the Apple TV from the online retailer.

AAPL was able to shrug that off in 2015 when 4K video was more bleeding edge, but consumers now expect the feature. Prior to joining Apple, Distad served as a senior vice president of content distribution at video streaming service Hulu. He will hold a similar position in the tech bellwether's firm. While the box keeps improving year after year, it's still behind the competition from Amazon's Fire TV.
