US To Investigate Obama's $221m Palestinian Aid

"This is actually money that the Israelis have traditionally supported us giving to the Palestinians because it goes toward things like security reform and making sure the Palestinian Authority doesn't collapse, and that's actually in Israel's security interest", Harf said.

USA officials conveyed to PA Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah on Tuesday that the funds were not expected to be handed over in the immediate future, said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Hours before he left office President Obama released more than $221 million in aid to the Palestinian Authority in an attempt to shore up the cash-strapped government in Ramallah.

Representatives Ed Royce, R-Calif., who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Kay Granger, R-Texas, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, blocked the funding packages in 2015 and 2016 in response to the P.A.'s efforts to join worldwide organizations. FOX News points out that such holds are generally respected by the executive branch but aren't legally binding after the funds have been allocated.

As it stands now, users can not possibly know that because the government prohibits companies from disclosing that information. While Microsoft is a US-based company, it can't be granted jurisdiction over data stored across its boarders.

In addition to the $221 million sent to the Palestinians, the former Obama administration informed Congress Friday that it would also allocate $6 million for foreign affairs spending, including $4 million for climate change programs, and $1.25 million in voluntary contributions to United Nations organizations, the Associated Press reported.

The department announced on Tuesday, that it would review the funds and make adjustments in accordance to the new Trump administration.

"I am deeply disappointed that President Obama defied congressional oversight and released $221 million to the Palestinian territories", Rep. Kay Granger, R-Texas, who sits on the House Appropriations Committee, said. The funds had previously been budgeted to the Palestinian Authority but blocked by Congress. Obama released the funds just hours before Trump was sworn-in as president. "The Obama Administration's decision to release these funds was inappropriate".
