Man shot dead trying to stop mall robbery in San Antonio

At least one person lost his life, while four others were injured during a robbery that went horribly wrong at a jewellery store in a shopping mall in San Antonio city in Texas on Sunday.

The second suspect fled the scene, shooting as he ran. Jonathan Murphy, who became known as the "Good Samaritan", died in the shooting when he attempted to intervene and stop the suspects, police say.

When they left the store, they encountered two witnesses who tried to intervene.

McManus described the shooting as "absolutely senseless", pointing to an incident on 25 November when another Good Samaritan was shot dead when they tried to help a woman from being assaulted outside a San Antonio Walmart.

Police are still searching for the second robber.

Police say one man is dead and five others are wounded following the shooting.

. "Justice for the robbers & killers", Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted.

A person inside the mall who spoke to WOAI-TV said he heard six shots. Another man, who was legally carrying a concealed gun, then shot and wounded the robber who killed the good Samaritan.

Both suspects are facing one capital murder charge and two counts of aggravated robbery, police said. Two other people- a woman who complained of chest pains and a pregnant woman who had labor pains - were also taken to local hospitals, Hood said.

The page states that Murphy and his wife were at the mall in the jewelry store getting their wedding rings cleaned when tragedy struck.
