Florida Newborn Kidnapped 18 Years Ago Found Alive, Well

An 18 year old girl in Walterboro, South Carolina, has been identified as a child who was kidnapped from a Jacksonville hospital hours after she was born in 1998.

Gloria Williams, 51, was arrested on charges of kidnapping. Just hours old at the time of her abduction, she is now 18.

Gloria Williams posed as a nurse during the kidnapping.

In the first year of Kamiyah's abduction, which received national attention, investigators worked over 2,000 leads and a reward for information reached a quarter of a million dollars.

The paper talked to Mobley's biological mother, Shanara Mobley, on the 10th anniversary of her daughter's disappearance.

"It is as complicated an investigation as you can imagine", he said.

As she grew older, White had suspicions about her past - she became pregnant as a teen, and Pettway couldn't provide her with her own birth certificate so she could get prenatal care.

Nurses at the hospital thought the woman was a member of the Mobley family, The Florida Times-Union reported.

In an unbelievable turn of events, the Sheriff says they found the 18-year-old living in the town of about 5,000 residents under a new name.

A girl snatched from a hospital in Florida in 1998 just hours after she was born has been found alive and healthy in SC, authorities announced Friday, cracking a case that went unsolved for almost two decades. She recently submitted a DNA sample, and authorities said the results came back as a positive match.

"They were elated. they were overwhelmed with emotion", Sheriff Williams said.

Kamiyah Mobley was not present at the news conference and no current photos of her were shared.

In Jacksonville, the young woman's birth family cried "tears of joy" after a detective told them their baby had been found.

A massive search ensued after she was taken as a baby, with helicopters circling the hospital and the city on high alert.
