5 killed after truck rams into Israelis in Jerusalem

Police have shot dead a Palestinian truck driver who rammed a group of soldiers in Jerusalem, killing four and injuring 17 others.

The U.S. State Department condemned the truck-ramming attack that killed four Israeli soldiers in eastern Jerusalem.

Three women and one man, all in their twenties, were killed and at least 13 more were wounded, police said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the four Israeli soldiers who were killed, and we hope for a full and fast recovery of those injured". TV footage showed bullet holes in the truck's windscreen.

According to police spokeswoman Luba Samri, the driver swerved into a group of Israeli soldiers who had just gotten off a bus at the Armon Hanatziv promenade.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the scene of the attacked a few minutes ago.

A video published by Israeli media outlets showed the truck driving into the Israelis before attempting to ram them again. The driver of the truck was shot dead.

Apple App Store Subscription Billings Jump Amid Fee Cut
Among the App Store's more than 2 million offerings, Apple said Pokemon Go was the most downloaded app. The restrictions on speech and expression in China have grown steadily over the past four years.

The incident occurred at a location overlooking the Old City, where the soldiers were reportedly on a historical tour of Jerusalem.

The truck-ramming attack came on the same day that Israeli military released statistics showing that 41 soldiers had lost their lives previous year.

Initially, police officials did not reveal the identity of the attacker. They have killed at least 37 Israelis and two visiting American citizens, according to Reuters.

Hamas spokesman Hazzem Qassem praised the attacker.

Many analysts say Palestinian frustration with the Israeli occupation and settlement-building in the West Bank, comatose peace efforts and their own fractured leadership have helped feed the unrest.

The BBC's Yolande Knell in Jerusalem says the number of attacks had begun to subside in recent months, but Sunday's incident is one of the most serious there has been.
