Trump blasts 'fools' against Russian friendship, takes aim at DNC

Mr. Trump accepted their conclusion that Russian Federation was behind the breach of computer networks of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the campaign of his opponent in the November presidential election Hillary Clinton, but strongly rejected the possibility that he benefitted from it.

"I am asking the chairs of the House and Senate committees to investigate top secret intelligence shared with NBC prior to me seeing it", the president-elect tweeted Friday, hours before he was expected to receive his own briefing from four top US intelligence officials. "We also assess Mr. Putin and the Russian government aspired to help President-elect Trump's election chances when possible by discrediting Secretary Clinton and publicly contrasting her unfavorably to him".

The conclusions delivered in the report raise concerns that USA allies will now be the targets of possible Russian cyber attacks in the future.

The Armed Services Committee hearing on Thursday comes a day before the president-elect is to be briefed by the CIA and FBI directors - along with the director of national intelligence - on the investigation into Russia's alleged hacking efforts.

James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence, appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday to discuss the agency's findings about Russia's meddling in the 2016 USA election.

Citing the report, the President-elect tweeted Saturday that intelligence officials "stated very strongly there was absolutely no evidence that hacking affected the election results".

The government also believes that Russian hackers have been breaching state and local electoral board websites in an attempt to learn more about the "technology and equipment" that the United States uses in its voting procedures.

Of course, the report discloses that the agencies "did not make an assessment of the impact that Russian activities had on the outcome of the 2016 election".

Trump's briefing occurred while Congress was meeting in a joint session to formally record the votes of the Electoral College and declare that he won the November 8 election, according to a presidential transition aide.
