In Defense of the Electoral College

In Defense of the Electoral College

Equally as predictably, outraged progressives - still unable to come to grips with their colossal failure - are now demanding an end to (you guessed it) the Electoral College.

A variety of options exist short of a constitutional amendment to do away with the Electoral College. Other candidates combined for 7.8 million votes, or 5.7 percent.

"Who were the people hollering for abolishing the Electoral College?"

That tally reflected Clinton's statewide win, which was worth two votes, and her victory in the 1st Congressional District, which earned her a third. Small states argue that they would get overwhelmed by very large states, especially coastal states, if the Electoral College was not in place and thus their votes would not count. In an opinion piece for the Washington Post last month, Mr Lessig observed that Hillary Clinton handily won the national popular vote.

Indeed, when RealClearPolitics.com combined the major national polls, it found their average prediction was that Clinton would win the popular vote by 3.3%, compared to the actual margin of 2.1%.

Black ice, cold temps could impact Monday morning commute
Those clouds are associated with a low pressure system passing across southern Canada and into New England. The next cold front will arrive late Wednesday into Thursday morning with just a small chance of rain.

A historic number of "faithless" electors - seven in total-each cast their ballots on Monday for a candidate other than the one who won his or her state.

The desperate search for a successful Hail Mary to prevent Donald Trump from becoming president is down to the wire.

Florida elector and Pinellas County GOP chairman Nick DiCeglie said he got thousands of emails and letters asking him to vote for a different Republican or a unity ticket with both a Republican and a Democrat. Thus, this discussion is certainly important for our democracy. The 2016 election was the fifth time a presidential candidate was elected by the Electoral College but lost the popular vote.

In late November, the former Apprentice host expressed similar sentiments while accusing Clinton of obtaining millions of "illegal" votes. Should no one be elected president outright by Inauguration Day, the new vice president, as chosen by the US Senate, takes over. And one of them might come on January 6, in the form of an objection filed at the official congressional count of the Electoral College votes. Trump's inauguration is planned for January 20 in Washington, DC. With the USA still trembling over Trump's win and now quivering over his remarks against other countries and his bypassing of the U.S. legal laws, it is time for Washington to buckle up and welcome a President who will take matters into his own hands.
